Qualcomm has announced plans to acquire Edge Impulse—an end-to-end AI platform for edge devices—during Embedded World in Germany. The move aims to strengthen Qualcomm’s IoT and AI solutions by equipping developers with powerful tools to build advanced applications across multiple industries. Nakul Duggal, Group GM for Automotive, Industrial and Embedded IoT, and Cloud Computing at Qualcomm, stated that this acquisition will help Qualcomm deliver “comprehensive technology for critical sectors such as retail, security, energy and utilities, supply chain management, and asset management.”

Edge Impulse’s platform, now part of Qualcomm, supports over 170,000 developers, helping them collect data, train AI models, deploy them on edge devices, and monitor performance. Coupled with Qualcomm’s Dragonwing processors and AI Hub, developers can expect improved inferencing performance and reduced model size—key for real-time IoT applications. Qualcomm’s broader IoT strategy will thus benefit from an integrated approach spanning chipsets, unified software architecture, cloud services, development kits, ecosystem collaboration, and purpose-built solutions.
