HCL Co-Founders Ajai Chowdhry And Arjun Malhotra have announced the formation of EPIC (Electronic Products Innovation Consortium) Foundation, a non-profit organization with the objective to create Indian Electronics products and Indian Brands in high-impact/high-Volume categories and manufacturing semiconductor chips by scaling volume of Indian Electronics products.
The foundation has roped in noted industry expert Dr Satya Gupta as the CEO. Several industry leaders, academicians, venture capitalists and management experts will serve as advisors to the foundation.
While India is making rapid strides in electronics manufacturing for global brands & products, Indian products and Indian brands in electronics are slowly disappearing over the last 2-3 decades. Today, the market share of Indian electronics products is less than 10% in most of the high-volume categories. The founders said that EPIC was formed to address this challenge.
EPIC team is already working with various partners on 2 ‘National importance’ products from the list of 10 focus products.
A ‘Made in India’ 10.1 Inch tablet for education based on AI/ML driven inter-lingual translation across Indian Languages (Voice-2-Voice, Text-2-Text etc.) and an Indian LED driver chip for LED Bulbs have been identified as the key priority.
“We have worked with the top-10 manufactures as customers, design experts for designing, Global and Indian Fabs for manufacturing and Indian ATMP units for packaging to serve the demand of 700 Million chips per year. An exciting opportunity of 70,000, 8 Inch Wafers per year, which can lead to 1st large volume Indian Semiconductor Chip designed, manufactured, packaged and consumed in India.” the founders said in a statement
EPIC foundation will be officially inaugurated on 13th April.
