Vishay’s Latest RGB LED Brings 70% More Brightness in a 22% Smaller Package

Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a new RGB LED—VLMRGB6122..—that delivers both precision color control and enhanced brightness, all in a compact, low-profile PLCC-6 package (3.5 mm x 2.8 mm x 1.4 mm). Unlike standard tricolor LEDs, this model comes with individual anode and cathode connections for each of the red, green, and blue chips. That means engineers can independently control each LED, mixing light to cover the entire color gamut triangle in the CIE 1931 space. The result? Smooth, high-accuracy color rendering across automotive interiors, signage, consumer electronics, and more.

Why does this matter?

Because RGB lighting isn’t just aesthetic—it’s about communication, personalization, and visibility in modern tech products. Whether it’s illuminating a dashboard symbol in your car or animating a large-scale video wall, this LED gives designers more flexibility without sacrificing space or durability.

And it’s not just about control—it’s about performance. Vishay claims a 70% brightness improvement over previous models and a 22% thinner profile than comparable solutions. It also operates across a wide temperature range (-40°C to +110°C), has Class B1 corrosion robustness, and is AEC-Q102 qualified—a must for automotive-grade applications.

Key Specs at a Glance:

  • Luminous intensity: up to 2800 mcd at 20 mA
  • Color control: Full RGB with individual connections
  • Package: Compact PLCC-6 (3.5 x 2.8 x 1.4 mm)
