Teradyne and Infineon Collaborate to Enhance Power Semiconductor Testing

Teradyne, Inc., a global leader in automated test solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Infineon Technologies AG, a leading semiconductor manufacturer specializing in power systems and IoT. This partnership aims to enhance power semiconductor testing and drive innovation in the sector.

Strengthening Semiconductor Testing Through Strategic Acquisition

As part of this agreement, Teradyne will acquire a segment of Infineon’s Automated Test Equipment (AET) team based in Regensburg, Germany. This acquisition benefits both companies—Teradyne will accelerate its roadmap in power semiconductor testing while collaborating with Infineon to develop new solutions.

Additionally, Infineon secures continued manufacturing support and increased flexibility in responding to its internal demand for specialized test equipment. The collaboration enables Infineon to benefit from Teradyne’s large-scale production capabilities and economies of scale.

Commitment to Talent and Innovation

Teradyne has assured its commitment to the 80-person AET team at Infineon’s Regensburg site, integrating their expertise into its Power Semiconductor business unit.

Rick Burns, President of the Semiconductor Test Group at Teradyne, shared his thoughts on the partnership:

“We are excited to collaborate with Infineon. The integration of their technology and team in Regensburg strengthens our leadership in the power semiconductor sector. This move enhances our market-leading ETS product portfolio and reaffirms our commitment to providing innovative solutions that meet evolving customer needs.”

Advancing Next-Generation Power Semiconductor Testing

Infineon views this partnership as a step toward advancing testing capabilities for cutting-edge power semiconductor technologies.

Alexander Gorski, Executive Vice President of Frontend Operations at Infineon, commented:

“Partnering with Teradyne allows us to expand our power semiconductor testing expertise. The integration of our talented team will accelerate innovation and help tackle the dynamic challenges in testing technologies like silicon carbide and gallium nitride. This collaboration ensures scalability and flexibility to meet the demands of our markets and customers.”

Impact on the Semiconductor Industry

This partnership signals a significant development in the semiconductor industry, particularly in power electronics. The growing demand for power semiconductors in electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy systems, and industrial applications highlights the need for robust and scalable testing solutions.

By combining Infineon’s technological prowess with Teradyne’s expertise in automated testing, the alliance is set to enhance testing efficiency, improve semiconductor reliability, and support next-generation applications.

As power semiconductor technologies continue to evolve, this collaboration positions both companies at the forefront of innovation in energy efficiency, electrification, and industrial power solutions.
