Silicon Labs Unveils BG22L and BG24L SoCs for Next-Gen Bluetooth-LE Connectivity

Silicon Labs has introduced the BG22L and BG24L system-on-chips (SoCs), designed to enhance Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) connectivity for a wide range of IoT applications. These low-power, high-performance SoCs cater to high-volume, cost-sensitive markets, offering advanced security, efficient processing, and extended battery life.

BG24L SoC: AI/ML and Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding

The BG24L SoC is a powerful AI/ML-enabled Bluetooth LE solution, integrating Silicon Labs’ proprietary Matrix Vector Processor (MVP) AI/ML accelerator for up to 8x faster inferencing while consuming one-sixth the power of traditional Cortex M calculations.

 

Key Features of BG24L:
1. AI/ML Acceleration → Optimized for time-series data analysis, enabling predictive maintenance, smart sensors, and Edge AI applications.
2. Bluetooth 6.0 with Channel Sounding → Achieves sub-metre distance accuracy, enabling asset tracking, access control, and smart security.
3. High-Performance Specs → 78 MHz ARM Cortex M33, 768kB Flash, 96kB RAM, in a 5mm x 5mm QFN40 package.

 

What is Bluetooth Channel Sounding?
Introduced with Bluetooth 6.0, Channel Sounding precisely measures distances between Bluetooth devices, unlocking accurate asset tracking and seamless wireless access control. This means:
Finding lost items (keys, wallets) with high precision.
Seamless, secure access to vehicles, lockers, and buildings—no passcodes needed.

 

BG22L SoC: Ultra-Low Power & Bluetooth Direction Finding

The BG22L SoC is tailored for common Bluetooth applications that require robust, secure, and ultra-low power wireless connectivity.

 

Key Features of BG22L:
1. Ultra-Low Power Mode → Operates for up to 10 years on a single coin cell battery.
2. Bluetooth 5.4 & Direction Finding → Supports advanced location-based services and proximity sensing.
3. Compact & Efficient → 38.4 MHz ARM Cortex M33, 352kB Flash, 24kB RAM, in a 4mm x 4mm QFN32 package.

 

Why it matters: The Precision Low-Frequency RC Oscillator (PLFRCO) eliminates the need for an external oscillator, reducing device size, power consumption, and manufacturing costs.
