Semiconductor Startup Baya Systems Raises $36M to Drive AI and IoT Innovation

Semiconductor startup Baya Systems has secured $36 million in a Series B funding round led by Maverick Silicon, with participation from Synopsys, Matrix Partners, and Intel Capital. This investment will fuel the development and deployment of Baya’s software-driven system IP technology for system-on-chips (SoC), aimed at accelerating AI and IoT innovation.

Revolutionizing AI and IoT with System-of-Chips

Baya Systems is tapping into a growing industry trend where system-on-chip (SoC) functions are no longer miniaturized on a single chip. Instead, a “system-of-chips” (chiplets) works together to enable scalable performance while optimizing power and cost.

Benefits of Chiplets:

  • Scalability: Achieves higher AI capabilities and efficient data movement.
  • Optimized Power: Reduces energy consumption without compromising performance.
  • Cost Efficiency: Lowers costs compared to monolithic SoCs.

This shift addresses the limitations of traditional SoCs, where increasing costs and power inefficiencies hinder innovation.

Baya’s Software-Based Chiplet Solution

Baya’s software-based design and exploration platform tackles major challenges associated with chiplets, including seamless integration, minimal latency, and efficient resource management. This enables semiconductor companies to develop chiplets and next-gen compute architectures that scale with AI workloads.

Founder and CEO Sailesh Kumar emphasized that relying on increasingly complex CPU, GPU, and AI accelerator combinations is unsustainable due to high re-engineering costs and scalability issues. Instead, Baya’s advanced system IP portfolio supports custom and standard protocols, delivering high performance, reduced silicon footprint, and lower power consumption.

Baya’s Key Technologies: WeaverPro and WeaveIP

Baya’s WeaverPro and WeaveIP platforms enhance data-driven architecture development through:

  • Real-time simulation and workload analysis.
  • Post-silicon tuning for optimized performance.
  • Improved data movement and connectivity, crucial for generative AI and multimodal computing.

Industry Recognition and Future Outlook

Investor Maverick Silicon’s Managing Director Andrew Homan highlighted that Baya is uniquely positioned to solve AI acceleration and compute scaling challenges. Meanwhile, Matrix Partners’ Stan Reiss emphasized Baya’s impressive execution, noting its leadership team hails from Apple, AMD, Arm, Intel, and Qualcomm.

With growing demand for high-performance AI and IoT chips, Baya Systems’ cutting-edge approach is set to reshape semiconductor innovation, making computing faster, more efficient, and scalable for next-generation applications.
