Nokia and Motorola Revolutionize Public Safety with AI-Powered Drones

Nokia and Motorola Solutions have joined forces to unveil an AI-driven drone-in-a-box solution, combining Nokia’s Drone Networks platform and Motorola Solutions’ CAPE drone software. This innovation is designed to cater to safety-critical and mission-critical industries, providing advanced situational awareness, streamlined remote operations, and quick decision-making capabilities.

Dispatching Drones Ahead of First Responders

The solution stands out with its ability to dispatch drones ahead of first responders. By assessing emergencies in real-time, drones can allocate resources more effectively and drastically reduce response times in critical scenarios. The platform enables industries to deploy drones remotely from multiple operation centers, providing an instant aerial overview of hazards and emergencies.

Equipped with AI-powered intelligence, these drones process live data to guide strategic decisions, ensuring improved safety for personnel, properties, and facilities. Motorola’s CAPE software enhances safety during flight by dynamically adjusting flight paths to avoid obstacles, maintaining geofenced boundaries, and adapting to terrain changes. Meanwhile, Nokia’s drone-in-a-box solution ensures robust connectivity using 4G/LTE and 5G networks, facilitating seamless BVLOS (beyond-visual-line-of-sight) operations across extensive areas.

Enhancing Industrial Safety and Sustainability

The solution is pivotal for industries such as oil and gas, utilities, ports, mining, and energy. Its BVLOS and remote operation capabilities enable safer and more efficient monitoring of hazardous or inaccessible areas like offshore sites or expansive industrial plants.

Replacing traditional inspection methods, such as helicopters, with drones not only improves safety but also significantly reduces carbon emissions, presenting a more sustainable alternative for industrial operations.

Real-World Impact and Endorsements

Roxana Kennedy, Chief of Police at the Chula Vista Police Department, highlighted the transformative impact of drones on public safety. Since the launch of their Drone as First Responder (DFR) program in 2018, the department has conducted over 21,000 missions, leveraging Motorola’s CAPE drone software to provide real-time insights that save lives and improve incident management.

A Sustainable and Innovative Future

Nokia’s Drone Networks platform is built with sustainability in mind, using long-lasting, upgradable components to minimize electronic waste. The open API architecture ensures compatibility with third-party applications, supporting integration with solutions like Nokia’s MX Grid and Motorola’s CAPE software.

Stephan Litjens, VP of CNS Enterprise Campus Edge Solutions at Nokia, emphasized the partnership’s impact on advancing drone technology while adhering to industry sustainability standards. Jehan Wickramasuriya, Corporate Vice President of AI and Intelligence Platforms at Motorola Solutions, reiterated the focus on delivering actionable insights and simplifying workflows for public safety and mission-critical operations.

This collaboration sets a new benchmark for the use of drones in enhancing situational awareness, worker safety, and environmental sustainability in public safety and industrial domains.
