Leading contract manufacturers, including Dixon Technologies, supply major global brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola, Realme, Google, Vivo, and Transsion Group. Meanwhile, Apple’s supply chain in India includes Foxconn and Tata Electronics, following Tata’s acquisition of Wistron and Pegatron’s local facilities.
With Mexico emerging as a manufacturing hub, India has the potential to become a strong alternative. To capitalize on this opportunity, infrastructure improvements and streamlined regulatory approvals are needed.
Product categories expected to benefit:
- Smartphones
- Laptops & Servers
- Televisions
- Lighting & Consumer Electronics
In 2023, Apple produced iPhones worth $17.5 billion in India, exporting $12.8 billion. Samsung’s contributions reached $4 billion. Apple aims to manufacture at least 25% of its iPhones in India over the next two to three years, further strengthening its local supply chain.
To support its expansion, Apple has partnered with over 40 Indian companies, including:
- Dixon Technologies
- Amber Electronics
- HCLTech
- Wipro
- Motherson Group
Union Budget 2025: Supporting Mobile Manufacturing Growth
In the Union Budget 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the removal of import duties on key mobile phone components, including:
- Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs)
- Camera Module Parts
- USB Cables
These measures aim to enhance India’s electronics manufacturing competitiveness by eliminating cost inefficiencies and encouraging domestic component production.
India’s Record Mobile Phone Exports
India’s mobile phone exports reached $20.4 billion in 2024, with:
- Apple leading with 65% of total exports
- Samsung accounting for 20%
- Indian firms contributing 15% (including re-exports)
Industry analysts predict that brands like Apple and Motorola will continue expanding their exports from India through EMS providers like Tata Electronics, Foxconn, and Dixon Technologies.
As the global trade landscape shifts, India’s ability to capitalize on new export opportunities, expand its supply chain, and negotiate favorable trade agreements will determine its long-term success in the electronics industry.
