July 18, 2024 – Infineon Technologies AG and Amkor Technology, Inc. have signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing sustainability and decarbonization efforts across their supply chains. This strategic collaboration is set to revolutionize green supplier engagement within the semiconductor industry.

Joint Efforts for a Greener Future

Building on their existing Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) relationship, Infineon and Amkor will work closely with common suppliers to develop and implement effective decarbonization strategies. This initiative will include workshops, meetings, and the exchange of best practices to help suppliers set and achieve science-based emissions reduction targets.

Leadership Commitment

“Infineon has made significant strides towards CO2-neutrality for scope 1 and 2 by 2030, halving our emissions while doubling our revenue since 2019,” stated Angelique van der Burg, Chief Procurement Officer at Infineon. “However, supply-chain-related Scope-3-emissions are the most challenging to address. This partnership with Amkor is crucial for driving innovation and collaboration with our suppliers to effectively reduce CO2 emissions.”

Giel Rutten, President and CEO of Amkor, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “Addressing Scope 3 emissions is the toughest part of our decarbonization journey. This collaboration is vital for Amkor’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. We look forward to working with our suppliers to set ambitious science-based targets and drive positive environmental impact across our value chain.”

Paving the Way for Industry Standards

Since launching its supplier engagement program in 2023, Infineon has worked with over a hundred suppliers to implement science-based targets. The new partnership with Amkor will accelerate these efforts, establishing science-based targets as the standard for climate strategies in the semiconductor sector.
